Q. Why do I need a merchant account?
A. You must have an
online merchant account if you'd like your customers to be able to pay
with their credit cards online. Credit card companies won't let you
accept credit card orders without a merchant account because of the
risk of fraud.
Q.
I already have a retail merchant account for my business. Why do I need
another account?
A. Banks
and credit card companies consider online credit card transactions different
from traditional ones because you cannot see the customer's credit card.
Because the risks are different, the transactions require different kinds
of merchant accounts.
Q.
I already have an online merchant account from another company. Can I
use that for my QuickCart shop?
A. We work
with several mechant account providers including; Cardservice International
(LinkPoint), Authorize.net, and Verisign. To use the E-Commerce tools,
you need to have a merchant account through one of the supported merchant
gateways. Of course, you may build a web site and catalog using Bigstep
even if you don't have a merchant account at all. To make purchases, however,
your customers will need to submit payments offline for example,
via phone, fax, or U.S. mail.
Q.
I already have a merchant account through Cardservice International. What
do I do?
A. Contact
Customer Support, and we'll help you work out the details.
Q.
What is SSL - Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
A. SSL is a protocol designed by Netscape Communications to enable encrypted,
authenticated communications across the Internet. Web addresses, or URLs,
that begin with "http" indicate that an SSL connection will be used.
SSL provides three important things: privacy, authentication, and message
integrity.
Q.
What is a Merchant ID and Terminal ID
A. Merchant IDs and Terminal IDs are terms that are held over from the
days before ecommerce. A shop or restaurant had a specific Merchant ID,
and could have several Terminal IDs, depending on the number of terminals
in the place of business. A restaurant may have several terminals
one behind the bar, and one at the waiter's station. The restaurant needs
to track transactions on the terminals separately, but have the funds
sent to one merchant account.
The banks and the payment processors still need to know a "Merchant ID"
(MID) and a "Terminal ID" (TID) in order to process transactions.
Once your application is approved, you will be issued a MID and a TID
by Cardservice International. Cardservice International will also insert
the MID and TID directly into our system, so you don't need to worry about
it.
I USE A PAYMENT GATEWAY THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE ON YOUR LIST?
We are working hard to intergrate as many gateways into our system as
possible. If you have an account with another provider and wish to use
our cart you can either get a second account with one of our supported
providers, or contact our customer service development team at support@quickcart.com
. For a small fee we can do a custom script for your store, or if enough
people with the same request ask, we will add that gateway our system.
